The Cover-up
Wow, Sarah! That’s a pretty neat painting of oranges. What inspired it?
Well, thanks for asking!
I had just finished a portrait I was really happy with and decided it only needed a couple of tiny touch-ups. (You can probably guess where this is going). Before I knew it, the proportions were off, the likeness was disappearing, and every attempt to fix it only made things worse.
At that point, I figured I had three options:
Spend weeks regridding the painting and trying to bring it back to life.
Punch a hole through the canvas.
Paint a pile of happy oranges over the top. 🍊🍊🍊
I’m proud to say I resisted option two. I think I’m growing up!
Although I’m still a little sore about losing the portrait, this painting is great. It must be the color, but it has such a happy and energetic feel. So much so, I’m thinking of painting a much larger one. I love making happy paintings out of disastrous ones.
